Whats better then a wedding, when the wedding is your friend walking down the aisle…And to top it off I had the pleasure to design the invites to help mark their special day. Louise and Evan wanted something more than just any wedding invite and I couldnt agree more. They both had amazing ideas in mind and with this the brainstorming began…

Move over Da Vinci… Because according to this I’m brushing with success!
So during the summer i had a few spare hours and decided to enter a local painting competition. Now because i had planted the seed in my head, there was no turning back.
The competition had loads of specific guidelines to follow, but the main guideline was the painting must be of a rural or agricultural setting. So every year my home town of bridgetown runs a agriculture show that draws in a crowd of a couple of thousand so my aim was to try an qualify at this show..
Because it was only a bit of fun i decided to try and do it on the cheap! seriously cheap.. i got the canvas for free and i bought the paint and brushes in tesco for 6 bucks.
So i got researching.. then sketching.. and then painting.. I spent about 10 hours id say on the painting. and battling with my dad as to why the horse had blue hair or red when clearly a horse is brown.. and grey!
Anyways im waffling.. i finished the painting. sent it in.. and I won in the local show. Then the overall final was next. According to the big people its the All Ireland Final..Come on the banner! So the final was held in Old Castle Co Meath on September 25th. There was 27 finalists. It was nightmare to get my painting up there.. Again I was trying to do it on the cheap.. aka for free! It got lost in the post but with a day to go it was found in the store room of the local Super Valu.
I didnt get to attend the final because it was 4 hour drive away and I honestly never expected much to come from it. But then i get the pleasant surprise text to tell me I’ve came third! Wahey! and I won 100cuid. Such a pleasant surprise.. another hilarious surprise was I also learnt that people actually take this competition very seriously and some painters qualify 3 or 4 times from different events in order to increase their chances in taking the gold medal… So i guess next time.. whether it be next year or 5 years times.. Im going for the gold!
Heres a poster I had to pull together this afternoon for the Limerick Civic Trust in association with Limerick Generation, Limerick City Council and FAS.
They wanted something bright and friendly to encourage people to have a look around the lovely manicured garden and take in the beautiful flowers surrounding this undiscovered little gem just outside the city.
